Before getting to a review of the General Meeting I have many thanks to make. Thanks to our exceptional board for all their work on the meeting; it really paid off. I would also like to thank Jodi Walsh for making a wonderful connection for us with Texas Contemporary, Michelle Matthews for volunteering to implement a gallery visit of Art in Houston in and outside the clay world, Jeff Forster for a tour of the Ceramics Department at Glassell, Glassell for hosting us and you, our members, for braving the weather to join us.

Our General Meeting was focused on where we are now and what we have planned for the future.  Each Board Member spent a few minutes discussing both the events we have hosted this year and the upcoming events. We had a bird's eye view of what we have in store for us at this year's symposium — Beyond Surface: Identity Through Clay. Nell brought us up to date on our Strategic Plan.

Thanks to all of you who gave input in the member survey. This will be very helpful in planning 2019. We have reviewed the compiled information and, in the coming months, will work on implementing some of the ideas. A notable result was that the way we spend our money correlates well with the responses of “what we like best.” This would indicate we are on the right track!

Now for the busy busy fall, please join us for any and all.

Oct. 1 - Dec  15 - Members Only Show “Clay Identities” - Oct 20 is the reception, please join us for this wonderful show. Can’t make the reception, stop by the Silos on Sawyer, Gallery 100.

Looking forward to seeing you at the next ClayHouston event. And remember to update your member page, this is a huge member benefit and your forum in which to shine.

On view September 8 - October 28, 2018

Opening Reception: September 8, 2018 | 6-8 PM

Gallery 200 in The Silos at Sawyer Yards

Three Journeys brings together a ceramicist, a painter, and a printmaker, three women working in three different media whose work is connected by the theme of the journey. For each artist, this theme has a unique meaning. For Evans, the journey focuses on her physical and mental health since battling cancer. For Reeder, the meaning is similar, with her work inspired by the journey from loss to renewal after being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. The journey for Sivov, who has moved around all of her life, is about finding belonging and a sense of home.
