May 2017 Newsletter
Greetings {Contact_First_Name},
This month it is all about ClayHouston workshops. On May 7, Eric Stearns will be demonstrating his piercing technique using a laser level, his underglaze transfers, and raku firing with an electric kiln. Participants will create tiles with the techniques Wow! As I write this, there are still some openings… sign up now (Register).
Our Clay Symposium October 28-29 2017 at Houston Baptist University will feature two amazing ceramic artists, Virgil Ortiz and Lauren Gallaspy. Virgil Ortiz has honored and built on his lineage of Cochiti Pueblo pottery-makers, using social commentary with traditional design and branching out into fashion and home furnishing. Lauren Gallaspy, a 2013 NCECA emerging artist and long-term Archie Bray resident, renders interior psychological spaces visible through her poetic imagery and imbalanced form in both functional ware and sculpture. Check them out on the web. We are so fortunate to have them with us in the ClayHouston community this fall.
Meanwhile, all good wishes to you as school wraps up and we move toward summer!
If you’d like to be more involved, please contact me at info@clayhouston.org.
