OCTOBER 2021 NEWSLETTER
Boo! Yes, it’s that time of year again. October! I hope you’ve been enjoying the beginning of cooler weather (fire up the kilns!) as we enter the Fall months. We had a fantastic Pop-Up event this past month and I’d like to extend a HUGE thank you to all who participated and volunteered! It was a busy day and we had such a good time with friends, old and new, coming out to support ClayHouston and local ceramic artists. It was wonderful to see you all! Thank you also for your support of Empty Bowls Houston at the event! We’re so happy when we can help The Houston Food Bank. October marks the opening of our 2021 Member Exhibition, For Now...For Later, at Sabine Street Gallery, 1907 Sabine Street, Houston, TX 77007. Our Exhibitions chair, Jacob Villalobos, has been hard at work setting up the show and I hope you will find an opportunity to stop by and check it out. It’s great to be back to our in-person exhibition format! There’s some beautiful work on display that really showcases the incredible talents of our members. We will be hosting an exhibition reception, date and details to be announced soon. Also, I am excited to announce that we will be holding a monthly online raffle featuring beautiful ceramic work by our members. The raffles support fundraising for our Equity, Inclusivity and Access (EIA) initiatives. The generous donations by our member artists are truly lovely so be sure to check it out and buy tickets - you might be the lucky winner!!! See below for more information on this month's raffle item. Looking ahead, we are getting very excited for the Bayou City Clay Crawl
that takes place on Sunday, December 5th, from 10am - 5pm. You’ll see
more details soon about the studio locations and artists. For more
information, or if you’re interested in participating, please send an
email to bayoucityclaycrawl2021@gmail.com.

Damon Thomas in Sculpture Month
“Contact,” a clay-focused multimedia installation by Damon Thomas, is on view through Dec. 4 as part of Sculpture Month Houston at SITE Gallery at The Silos at Sawyer Yards, 1502 Sawyer St., Suite 400. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 12-6.
Damon will give an artist talk on Sat., Oct. 30 at 2 p.m.
“Contact” is one of 16 installations on view for Sculpture Month Houston. The gallery’s cavelike setting is ideal for this year’s theme, “Altamira: The Primal Urge to Create.” Damon’s installation is his imagining of how humans and wolves first encountered each other in the dark confines of a prehistoric cave.
