January 2019 Newsletter

Greetings and a very Happy New Year to all!

What a wonderful year it was. I would like to thank all of you, CH Board, Volunteers and Members for your participation and support in making 2018 a banner year.

We wrapped up our busy calendar with a very successful second annual Bayou City Clay Crawl or BCCC as we have begun to call it.  Our goal was to have a fundraiser and to elevate the appreciation for ceramic art in Houston. We achieved those goals with loads of sales, lots of conversations with visitors and also obtained wonderful input for next year’s BCCC.

Here is a recap of the BCCC in round numbers:

Total Sales               $ 11,500.00

CH Share                $   2,885.00

CH Expenses           $      650,00

Net Income               $   2,225.00

We are also coming to the end of a very successful year-end giving campaign. Thank you all for your participation. These two fundraisers will help support our symposium, programs and workshops for the 2019 calendar year.

In other exciting news, our biennial call is out TIMELESS CLAY: Future Artifacts. The theme not only references the enduring nature of the ceramic medium and its history, but it also speaks to the path ahead. Contemporary ceramic art is observed within the context of the work that came before it. This exhibition will serve as a reminder that today’s ceramic artists are creating tomorrow’s artifacts. The exhibition will be hosted by HCC Main Campus, the call closes January 31; check out all the information in the newsletter.

Finally, the board is in the process of organizing the 2019 event calendar. If you have ideas or input you would like to share or, most importantly, if you are interested in volunteering on a committee please let me know.

Wishing you a wonderfully creative 2019,

Anne Steacy
