ClayHouston is an organization of greater Houston and Southeast Texas clay artists. Our goals are:
- To organize and promote a (professional) clay community in the Southeast Texas region, providing education and exchange of information and ideas.
- To educate the Houston area public about the clay arts and artists in our area.
- To support and promote individual artists and clay groups with sales venues exclusive to clay.
So, what do we do ?
In addition to planning and putting on our major event, the ClayHouston Festival, we strive to organize events that help bring together the Houston-area clay community. Over the past few years we have:
- Shared ideas, questions and ceramics information with 150 artists participating our online discussion group.
- Organized a workshop with Robin Hopper, reknowned ceramic artist.
- Held bi-monthly open meetings featuring talks by visiting artists, practical how-to sessions on photographing your work or designing a exhibition booth.
- Sponsored periodic "Slide Slams" to allow members to share their work
- Contributed collectively and individually to the Houston "Empty Bowls" events benefiting local food banks.
- Organized participation in local crafts sales.
- Invited local school and college ceramics programs to participate in the ClayHouston Festival as a way to make their offerings better known.
